Environmental Impact Statement
Proposed Southeast Wisconsin Law Enforcement Facility
Wisconsin Department of Justice

A public meeting to present the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the proposed Southeast Wisconsin Law Enforcement Facility project will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, in the Firefly Room of the Wauwatosa Public Library located at 7635 W North Ave, Wauwatosa, WI 53213. Parking is available free of charge directly south of the library off of Watson Avenue. A description of the project and potential environmental impacts will be presented, and all persons will be afforded a reasonable opportunity to identify both orally and in writing any support, issues, or concerns they believe should be addressed during the EIS process for this proposed project. The EIS will be prepared in accordance with the Wisconsin Environmental Policy Act (WEPA), Wisconsin Statutes 1.11 guidelines. Ayres Associates has been retained to prepare an EIS on behalf of Wangard Partners Inc. (Wangard) and the State of Wisconsin Department of Administration, Division of Facilities Development.

The existing Milwaukee Crime Laboratory (MKE Crime Lab), located at 1578 South 11th Street, Milwaukee, WI, was constructed in 1983-1984 as an approximately 61,000 gross square foot multi-story building. The MKE Crime Lab Property has outdated building systems and laboratory conditions that do not meet program needs, over-crowding, and inadequate on-site parking. The Department of Justice (DOJ) intends to collocate its current operations of the MKE Crime Lab with other DOJ divisions (Division of Criminal Investigation Milwaukee field office and Attorney General's Office) and consolidate from three locations to one location.

The proposed project will create a 150,000-GSF, three-story state-of-the-art facility to house a forensic science laboratory and additional office space located at 1400 North 113th Street, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. The proposed project budget has not been finalized, but is estimated at $75 million.

The purpose of the Draft EIS is to identify potential impacts of the project on the physical, biological, social, and economic environments. The Draft EIS describing these potential impacts is being made available to the public and to appropriate federal, State, and local agencies for a 45-day review period, which begins August 8, 2017, and concludes September 21, 2017. Copies of the document will be available on August 8, 2017 for review at the Wauwatosa Public Library, or by clicking the links below.

If you are interested in this project or have any information relevant to it, we welcome your comments, suggestions, or other input. For consideration in the Final EIS, please submit your comments at the meeting on September 20, 2017 or in writing by September 21, 2017 to:
