Library Collections Preservation Facility
Project # A-22-012_0699-0219 |
|
This proposed project will add 38,000 gross square feet (GSF) to the existing VSF. The proposed addition is a single-story, high-capacity structure that supports high-density storage. It incorporates sophisticated mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems to preserve stored materials by maintaining the appropriate humidity and temperatures required for long-term storage. Additionally, the project will include geothermal heating, LED lighting, and clean-agent fire suppression systems that meet preservation requirements. The estimated project cost is approximately $33 million. The University of Wisconsin System Administration (UWSA) has retained Ayres on behalf of the University of Wisconsin-Madison to prepare an EIA in accordance with the Wisconsin Environmental Policy Act (WEPA), Wisconsin Statutes 1.11, and UWSA guidelines (Board of Regents’ Resolution 2508, November 6, 1981). The purpose of the Draft EIA is to identify the project’s potential impacts on the physical, biological, social, and economic environments. The Draft EIA describing these potential impacts is being made available to the public and appropriate federal, state, and local agencies for a 15-day minimum review period, which begins March 14, 2023, and concludes March 28, 2023. Copies of the document will be available for review at the UW-Madison Memorial Library and Verona Public Library or they are digitally available at the bottom of this page. A public meeting to present the DEIA for the proposed project will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. The meeting will be held virtually and can be attended online at https://meet.goto.com/862868821 or via phone by dialing +1 (571) 317-3122 followed by access code 862-868-821. A description of the project and potential environmental impacts will be presented. All persons will be afforded a reasonable opportunity to identify, both orally and in writing, any support, issues, or concerns they believe should be further addressed during the EIA process. |
